Jaeger LeCoultre Asks You A Dumb Question; Offers A Nonsense Response Feature Articles Please try reading the words that accompany the pictures of watches you pick up catalogs to look at, or on websites. Utterly indecipherable much of the time. Like a code that makes you solves riddles to figure out basic items that make a watch desirable. I'm glad that a 1000 labors worked for a 1000 to perfect the sheen on the watch case, but what movement does it have? I've actually experienced sales people at watch retailed locations pulling out "the big book" that is supposed to have the information in it. The tome is hauled up on the display case. Dust is blown off, and the poor sap looking through the pages is annoyed themselves that none of this information is easily to find. It would be like going car shopping and the sales person calling the factory to determine what type of engine the car has. "There is a guy from corporate that might now. I can give you his phone number." Oh no, you've done quite enough, I won't trouble your overburdened company for any more basic information.

Tissot Sea Touch Diving Watch: Officially Announced Watch Releases While I knew it was coming, the official announcement for the Tissot Sea Touch watch is here. In early January I picked up rumblings on the Internet of a new Tissot T-Touch watch called the Sea Touch (read more about it in the link). Some prototype images and speculation aside, it was pretty obvious what the new diving-centric T-Touch line watch was all about. It is now clear that there will be rubber and steel bracelet versions. The case of the watch will be steel as well (not titanium as I previous speculated, as at the T-Touch Expert is made). That is OK, as steel has proved to be an excellent material for diving watches. As for the sapphire touch screen crystal, I am so happy that it seems to work underwater and with gloves.

The Thomas Prescher Tourbillon watches ensure that the focal point of the designs are the tourbillon cages. This is the area where the tourbillon is located. Again, a tourbillon is a rotating escapement whose idea it is to increase the accuracy of a watch, although they are mainly for show. Because this escapement is constantly moving, they are an excellent aspect of a watch to focus on. As such, the Prescher watches feature viewing windows for the flying tourbillons contained within; with a view all the way through the watch. Thomas Prescher really went to great lengths to create a new kind of flying tourbillon. One that is held in place by a single arm. On the double tourbillon the arm spins (one per a minute), and on the triple tourbillon the arm spins and rotating (once per an hour) around the tourbillon carriage. The spinning frequencies are synced to the hour and minute of the watch time itself.

So yes, there are steel, gold, and even some diamond studded versions available. Pretty basic stuff really. I'd like to see how much of the "first automatic wrist watch" messaging they use in their marketing materials. Got to push any unique angle you know! Check for the new Harwood watches soon.

Enamel Protocole XXL Watch Collection Furthers Piaget's Obsession With New York And Paris Watch Releases What started with laser engraving on the side of a watch case is turning into a trend and serious art form for Piaget. Last year they released two watches with such laser engraving; the Piaget Polo Tourbillon relatifs. One was of a Paris skyline, and the other of New York. Each was done with incredible detail and was a shining example of artistic use of the technology. Only a few of each was produced, with pricing in the astronomical region.

On the left side you have the massive tourbillon with the "R" for Rodolphe. The arrow at the top of this "R" indicates the seconds as the massive tourbillon spins once every 60 seconds. This feature takes up about half of the dial, and adds a constant source of visual movement which makes the watch more interesting to look at. The digital readout of the hour and minute is great looking. Nicely modern, even though it is basic and legible.

Free, disruptive. The latest Concord specimen grants time a space that befits its very nature: free from constraints or ties. With an aerial bi-axial Tourbillon mechanism, a structure that makes emptiness its core material, a 3D dial, functional elements fitted to the side of the case and an industrial and minimalist spirit, the C1 QuantumGravity timepiece defies all laws, including that of watchmaking logic and most of all, of gravity.

Burlet was not always an artist, but lived a life around automobiles. Somewhere in the mix he developed an eye for watches and seemingly became fascinated by their connection to fine cars. Burlet has a penchant for painting Ferrari cars both new and old. Though he does of course recreate other automobiles in watercolor as well.

The Nivrel Shark Sea Tourbillon Is A Rare Tourbillon In A Sea Of Glamour

The Nivrel Shark Sea Tourbillon Is A Rare Tourbillon In A Sea Of Glamour

Temption is very proud of the process involved in attaching the sapphire crystal to the dial of the Cameo. As you can probably imagine, sapphire crystals are usually glued into place. This gives it a nice sealed look, but how strong is the bond? The Cameo uses a unique curved rectangular sapphire crystal (which I can imagine is expensive). Instead of gluing it to the dial and bezel, the sapphire crystal on the Cameo is chemically bonded (which sounds a lot like gluing) to the watch itself, which is apparently a more secure form of bonding that glue. Why is this? Well if you think about it, most sapphire crystals have all curved edges (most are simply round).  However, looking at the Cameo, the crystal has square edges, which are notoriously difficult to seal. Thus, if Temption used the ol' gluing method, it could not ensure a good watertight seal. Never wanting to let anyone down, Temption decided to involve a more complex process in attaching the sapphire crystal so that it would be as watertight as possible. There is a special mirrored coating on the sides of the crystal to hide the bonding, making the effect completely transparent.

In a nutshell, the device is a folding phone that fits on a wrist strap. When the phone is folded, a smaller anterior screen displays the time. To use the phone, the wear slips out the phone and unfolds it. A concern immediately appears, but I think is easily dismissed. You can surmise that because the phone separates from the wrist strap, they can easily become lost from one another. However, mobile phones aren't typically latched to anything anyways, so these phones could be just as easy to lose as any other. Second, if you lost the wrist strap, it doesn't look like something that would be too expensive to replace anyway. Thus, I don't think there is too much of a risk of loss, and there must be some way of securing the phone into the wrist strap harness. No big deal there.

Tiffany & Co. Mark T-57 Automatic Watch Review: Sport And Formality Mix With Satisfying Results Wrist Time Reviews Tiffany & Co. Mark T-57 Automatic Watch Review: Sport And Formality Mix With Satisfying Results Wrist Time Reviews The Mark T-57 doesn't share too much design-wise with the rest of the Tiffany & Co. Mark lines of watches; other than the signature Tiffany & Co. use of Roman numerals, and the black rotor on the movement. In fact, the design is highly distinct for Tiffany & Co. as a whole. Although they have been able to retain a classic, yet "different" look for themselves, the T-57 is much more ambitious a look for Tiffany & Co. in relation to their existing line of watches. I wrote a while ago regarding the lineage of the design itself, you can read here and see a bit about how the looks of the Tiffany Mark T-57 came to be. My theory is that the non rubberized version of the Mark T-57 stemmed from a design exercise of the watch. Tiffany & Co. is not used to having too many sporty watches, and I think they made a good decision to include the non rubber coated version of the watch (which is the version I own). Just in case it was not clear, the vulcanized rubber that I am speaking of is placed on the middle of the links on the bracelet and between the alternating segments on the bezel.

If anyone just up and snatched the safe, the joke would be on them. Inside are a series of alarms and GPS trackers so that you can track down the safe (which again, is probably going to be worth more than what is inside). Honestly, even the police admit that if someone wants to steal something enough, they are going to find a way. So no matter what securing mechanism these Bentley safes have, someone will find a way to crack it if necessary. Oh, and ever tried to use your GPS in a garage only to get the friendly "cannot locate satellites: message. Is the safe going to start chirping that out to capers?

Vacheron Constantin Metiers d’Art Tribute To Explorers 2008 Watches: Not Particularly Good Tributes To Great Explorers Watch Releases While I really like the idea, I just don't think Vacheron Constantin succeeding in getting the point across with these watches. The Metiers d’Art Tribute To Great Explorers 2008 collection is meant to honor Marco Polo and Christopher Columbus with well crafted watches that have old-style maps on them. Solid gold cases frame sophisticated enamel art with gold accents throughout. The enamel style is called "grand feu" and is apparently very tricky to get done right. I have no doubt that the methods used to creates this artistic watches are world-class, and that the fit and finish is top-notch. But that is not what a nice watch is all about in the end.

Watch Maker LUM-TEC Uses Crowd-Sourcing For New Watch Design

The crown is wonderfully large. It needs to be when you call this a machine. Place attention on its operating point. There is not much going on, on the rear of the watch, save for two symmetrical gears. These likely spin in tandem when you manually wind the watch. The hardest part of a movement such as in the HM3 is creating the symmetry and making it look so nice. There is nothing too inherently complicated about the MB&F No. 3 in watch terms. You can get the same functions in mechanical watch for a few hundred bucks. What is special, is the orientation of the gears and elements that make up the movement and the watch itself.

Two Engraved Skeletonized Beauties: The Patek Philippe 'Art Piece" 5180/1 And The IWC Portuguese Tourbillon Mystère Squelette Watches Feature Articles Both watches are also skeletonized. This is an interesting process whereby decoration on the movement is complimented by an actually decorated movement. Almost all necessary metal is removed, and just the bare 'skeleton' of the movement is retained. This way you can seriously appreciate all aspects of the watch. Skeletonized watches make the dials less legible, but the trade off is having a beautiful machine to look at on your wrist.

Triple Watch Mobile Phone Concept By Manon Maneenawa: A Realistic Phone Watch Luxury Items Typically concept phone/watch combinations are intriguing, but so far away from practicality or the limits of current technology that they are only worth a brief glance. Then there are those things that actually look as though they could work with what we have today. This is why I am excited about the Triple Phone Watch concept.

The Prix Officiel de la Revue des Montres 2008 named this Girard Perregaux the most beautiful woman's watch of the year for 2008. The official watch review or not, I don't agree that this is the most beautiful woman's watch of the year. It certainly is well made and designed beautifully, but not the best in my opinion. That would probably go to something else, perhaps a Piaget or Breguet. Hope you had a happy shopping season!
