The case is water resistant to 100 meters - which is fine. Omega doesn't need to start mixing their Speedmaster and Seamaster watches too much. I really liked the case on my wrist. It felt like the right size and was very comfortable. The steel version of the Speedmaster Co-Axial Chronograph comes with a strap or fine steel bracelet. I believe that the orange gold version only comes with the black alligator strap (for now).
Engineers and scientist have worked for years to make ceramics tougher. And one interesting solution is “Zirconia Toughened Alumina” and “Yttria Stabilized Zirconia.” It is a special class of ceramics. When the ceramic is breaking under stress, it microscopically swells at the crack and stops the crack from growing. Thus improving the toughness. Still, their toughness is low with respect to metals. If you had a watch made of such ceramics, they would be much more impact resistant than usual ceramics watches.
It was crowded at HYT during the press conference. Lots of people went to hear Vincent Perriard discuss the inner workings of the H1, the new watch from his new brand called HYT. Teased for months and then recently debuted, the HYT is a high-end geek watch that aims to combine traditional mechanical watches and liquid. The H1 is the brand's first release, with more liquid-themed watches to come in the future. I caught up with Perriard after the conference to get a special hands-on look and presentation from the man himself on the new watch.
The dials themselves are very well-done for what RJ is going for. Romain Jerome was able to create a three-dimensional display that looks as though it was built out of pixel layers. The characters/sprites on the dial are colored with a special lacquer. Nothing feels flat, and given what Romain Jerome wanted to do with the dial and the Space Invaders' theme, I think they did a good job. Reading the time via the hands is fine, but there are no discernible hour markers to help out.
Finishings: 22-carat gold oscillating weight with “Côtes de Genève” pattern
Why is this cool? Private label wrist watches aren't difficult to get, but high-end ones are. If you want wrist watches with your logo on it, you usually need to settle for much less expensive watches that don't always fit the bill. Most higher-end brands that share logo space on their dials do so only after entering into partnership or ambassador agreements with various people and organizations. Having the ability to private label name-brand Swiss mechanical watches just isn't that easy.
Each dial is very much reminiscent of the Reverso's historical look. The brand is careful to ensure that detailing is impressive by giving the dials machine engraving and crisp printing. The black colored dial also has luminant for night viewing. The best part is that the overall Reverso look is not only highly art deco in style, but also very legible and useful. It is hard to not be a Reverso fan. The design is timeless, looks good on most people, and even after all this time the flipping case concept is still fun. Others have tried to replicate the idea of a double sided watch, but no one does it better than JLC.

The Black Sea Chronograph case is 45.8mm wide, but wears a bit smaller than it looks because of the thick bezel. You can see that the dial has a sand-like texture and there is a splash of red and blue on the face as well. While the name of the watch is the Black Sea Chronograph, Ulysse Nardin reminds you that this is certainly part of their Marine Diver collection right on the dial as part of the unique looking subsidiary seconds counter. On the side of the case is a steel plate that has the serial number of the watch - this isn't a limited edition.
This article was written to generally inform people about titanium as a watch case material and has been obviously simplified. A larger discussion of titanium would expand on each of these topics and include many more. Though as watch lovers you hopefully have a new perspective on the popular metal. In conclusion, if you buy a titanium watch, especially one with a good coating, you will be happy with your decision.
Pictured, the Chapter Three Reveal watch is in an 18k rose gold case with a blue/black dial and black alligator strap. While this might be the only version for 2012, other color variations and material choices are sure to come. Fans of independent watch makers and those who enjoy high-end classically styled high-complication watches will certainly be into the Chapter Three this year.
