Powered by the ever-reliable ETA 2824, the Helson makes use of C3 Lume, monobloc construction, and a large, easily gripped unidirectional rotating bezel with no-decompression markings – all welcome features in a watch designed from the ground up to be used and abused. This is a piece that begs for its first battle scars from the moment you open the box (tangling with actual sharks not recommended…).
Oddly enough the original Zenith Rainbow wasn't just one chronograph watch with a colorful dial, but was also the name used for the exact same watch with a simpler black and white dial. More so, the Rainbow collection grew to include some three-hand models as well. These original Rainbows are pretty sought after and can reach prices of up to ,000 when in good condition. Expect to pay about ,000 - ,000 on average for one, though some versions are close to ,500. An original Rainbow Flyback Chronograph is a great watch to have.
On the wrist, it's... bold. In a very unusual, "I care about design and quality" sort of way.
The basic model of the lot is the reference L2.777.4.53 three-hand model. Its L615 self-winding mechanical movement (which basically is an ETA 2895/2 which in turn is a modified 2892) shows the hours and minutes, while the seconds and the date are displayed at 6 o’clock. A GMT complication is featured in the second Avigation Oversize Crown, called the ref. L2.778.4.53, which displays the time in a second zone with a centrally mounted hand pointing to its own scale of 0-24 hours. This watch is fitted with an L704 self-winding mechanical movement (ETA A07 171).
With Valentine's Day coming up it is good for us to have a few decent watch options to buy for those watch loving ladies in our lives. If you don't have any of those around you certainly haven't been spreading your enthusiasm for timepieces effectively. I don't review watches for women all that often because I am not a woman and cannot comment on them as such. Fortunately in this case I am merely reporting on a review by a woman owner of this precise watch. I'll also add why in the abstract this piece is pretty nice in my opinion.
The Grande Seconde dial made the modern Jaquet Droz watch brand famous. Taken from an interesting 18th century pocket watch with a lovely figure eight style dial, the Grande Seconde wristwatch dial was not only visually appealing, but also resonated well with the Chinese consumer who has a penchant for the number "8." Today, the Grande Seconde dial is basically synonymous with the aged brand - even though the figure eight style dial was not a big part of the brand's true history.
The stark, severe Bauhaus inspired design, emphasizing function and minimalism is self-evident where not an inch of excess is to be found anywhere. Indeed, Nomos watches have been called minimalist, and the design identity is so strong that it extends to the packaging. I received this Nomos Zürich Weltzeit in a slim cardboard box that was only big enough for the watch to lay flat in. Protected by two pieces of dense black foam, the inner box where the watch is slides out from the main cover to be revealed in all its glory
I now want to finally begin to tell you the answers to these questions after an unexpected event happened that would cause me to work with Ariel and the blog I had come to love after so long. This story might be of interest to you if you have always wondered what it is like behind the curtain of aBlogtoWatch, or maybe even industry blogging in general. My head has not stopped spinning, and I want to tell you what I saw in the last few months as an unseasoned and possibly new member of the watch industry.
Fast forward 50 years and TAG Heuer does not disappoint with two new releases of the same Calibre 36 version but this time with a flyback feature. There are two primary models. First, the "Racing" version in super-light, grade 2 titanium, sandblasted and treated with black titanium carbide. The dial is anthracite colored with a sun-ray pattern and with markers for 60 minutes at five minutes increments, giving the whole watch a feel of the handheld chronographs that the brand is so famous for. At the center there are two sub-dials: one for the running seconds at 9 o'clock and the other for the 30 minutes chronograph counter at 3 o'clock. Red accents on the tips of the counter hands and around the bezel for the tachymetre's cardinal markers completes the sporty look.
